Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) ID Card Application

The Embassy of Nepal facilitates the application process for NRN ID Card for eligible individuals of Nepali origin and Nepali nationals residing abroad. Follow the instructions below carefully to ensure smooth processing.

For Foreign Citizens of Nepali Origin (Valid for 10 Years)

Required Documents:

All copies of documents must be self-attested (write "True Copy" on the back with the applicant"s signature and date).

  • Printed and Signed Online Application Form
  • Copy of Korean Naturalization/Citizenship Certificate or Korean Birth Certificate (if born in the Korea)
  • Copy of Korean Passport
  • Copy of renouncement of Nepali Citizenship
  • Proof of Nepali Origin (One of the following):
    • Copy of Nepali Citizenship Certificate/ Minor Certificate/ Birth Certificate (if previously a Nepali citizen - First Generation NRN)
    • Copy of Nepali Citizenship of Father/Mother (if Second Generation NRN)
    • Copy of Nepali Citizenship of Grandfather/Grandmother (if Third Generation NRN, along with a document proving the relationship)
  • Proof of Employment or Business in the Current Country (if applicable)
  • Recent Passport-Size Photograph (45 mm x 35 mm, 400x300 pixels)
  • Signature of the Applicant on Plain White Paper
  • Revenue: (Foreigners with Nepali Origin): 7,90,000 Korean Won
  • ​​​​​​​Revenue (Nepali Residing in Foreign Country): 1,10,000 Korean Won

Renewal:

Same requirements as above with a copy of the previous NRN ID

Loss/Damage of NRN ID:

Applicants applying for a replacement due to loss or damage must submit the same required documents as a new application, along with:

  • A copy of the lost/damaged NRN ID
  • A self-declaration letter stating that the ID was lost (for loss cases only)
  • Fee: (Double the standard NRN ID fee)

2. NRN ID for Nepali Nationals Currently Living Abroad (Valid for 2 Years)

Required Documents:

All copies of the required documents must be self-attested (by writing “true copy” at the back, along with the applicant"s signature and date).

  • Completed Online Application Form (Printed and signed by the applicant)
  • Copy of Nepali Citizenship Certificate
  • Copy of Nepali Passport (Biographic data page from a valid passport)
  • Copy of Green Card (if applicable)
  • Proof of Address (any official document showing the applicant"s current address)
  • Proof of Business or Employment (Documents related to business or employment in the current country of residence, if applicable)

Renewal:

Same requirements as above with a copy of the previous NRN ID.

  • 1. Can we receive NRN citizenship through the Embassy?
    No. At present, the Government of Nepal has not authorized the Embassy to issue NRN citizenship. Applicants are advised to contact their respective District Administration Office in Nepal for further information.
  • 2. What rights are granted with an NRN ID?
    Kindly check prevailing NRN Act and Rules.
  • 3. I am a woman of Nepali origin married to a non-Nepali foreign national. Is my child eligible for an NRN ID card? Do I need to submit additional documents?
    No. The child is not eligible to receive an NRN ID card.
  • 4. Is it possible to obtain an NRN ID card from Nepal? Whom should I contact?
    Yes. You may apply for an NRN ID card through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal (Labour Migration and Nepali Diaspora Coordination Division). Please select the appropriate office when completing the online application.
  • 5. I have submitted my citizenship renunciation application and original citizenship certificate but have not yet received the renunciation certificate. Can I apply for an NRN ID card?
    No. Submission of the official citizenship renunciation certificate is mandatory to apply for an NRN ID card.
  • 6. Can I use an NRN ID card to transfer or sell land in Nepal?
    An NRN ID card allows for the purchase of property in Nepal; however, it may not permit the transfer or sale of land.
